Team OddsShark Poised to Bounce Back in Week 8 of Super Contest

After most of the entrants in the Super Contest at the Westgate SuperBook posted losing marks, the 25 members of Team OddsShark are ready to rebound and hope Week 8 is a lot easier for them. With Michaela Vernava the lone member of the group to earn a winning record in Week 8 by going a perfect 5-0, the only place to go is up for the rest of the team. Four members went 0-5 and cannot do any worse while group leader Ty Schalter looks to remain on top despite coming off an 0-4-1 performance.

Vernava moved into the Top 10 of the group standings after last week, and this week she is again banking on mostly favorites to help her jump even higher. She is one of 11 team members who selected the New Orleans Saints as 9-point home favorites against the Chicago Bears along with defending group champion Frank Schwab. However, Schalter stayed away from that game and instead chose the most popular consensus play overall in Week 8 – the Carolina Panthers as 2-point road underdogs versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New Orleans was the second-most popular play overall.

The Panthers were selected 844 times (31 percent) by the record 2,748 contestants compared to 801 (29 percent) for the Saints. Rounding out the Top 5 Super Contest consensus picks for Week 8 are the Seattle Seahawks (-5.5 vs. the Houston Texans), the Atlanta Falcons (-4.5 at the New York Jets) and the Los Angeles Chargers (-7 at the New England Patriots). The Seahawks were chosen by 797 entrants (29 percent) followed by the Falcons (766) and Chargers (746). Team OddsShark agreed with two of those plays, with 10 members riding with Seattle and 10 with Los Angeles. Carolina ranked as the seventh-most popular pick among the group, taken six times.

Richard Roeper has already picked up one point in Week 8 for backing the Baltimore Ravens as 3-point home favorites over the Miami Dolphins in a 40-0 rout on Thursday Night Football. Nobody else in the group selected a side in that game, and Roeper’s win puts him into a tie for second place in the team standings, a half-point behind Schalter.
