Three Members of Team OddsShark Place in Top 50 of 2017 Super Contest

For the first time since Team OddsShark was started three years ago, more than one member finished in the money of the world-famous Super Contest at the Westgate SuperBook. Considering there were a record 2,748 entrants in this year’s Super Contest, that is quite a feat. The overall winner Granny’s Boy took home more than $1.3 million after totaling 60.5 points to edge out Schematic Advantage and HowDoIPlayXX, who finished in a tie for second place with 59 to split nearly $800,000 equally.

Newly crowned 2017 Team OS champion Paulo Antunes went 3-2 in Week 17 to tie for 18th place overall while Frank Schwab jumped Ty Schalter for second in the group by going 4-1 to tie for 33rd. Schalter just made the cut for the top 50 despite going 2-3 for the second consecutive week, ending up in a tie for 48th with nine other contestants.

Antunes looked to be in great shape after going 3-0 in the early games on Sunday, but he lost his last two picks to finish with 54 points and fall out of the top 10, where he could have won over $100,000. Instead, Antunes won a little more than $25,000, which ranks as the most money ever earned by a Team OS entrant. Before this year, David Fucillo was the lone member of the team to place in the top 50, tying for 24th in 2015.

In addition to Antunes, Schwab will take home more than $6,500 after winning the team title a year ago. He ended up with 52.5 points this season compared to 46 in 2016. Schalter had 52 to place third for Team OS in the toughest field ever, making a 17-point improvement from his first year when he finished 23rd out of 24 team members.

This season, 12 of the 25 members of Team OddsShark finished above the .500 mark, and newcomer Ben Maggin was the only one who went a perfect 5-0 in Week 17. Others who impressed in their first year included movie critic Richard Roeper and UFC ring girl Jhenny Andrade, who finished with 47 and 46 points, respectively.
