Tough Super Contest Week Keeps Schwab Atop Team OddsShark Standings

After watching the Week 5 Monday Night Football matchup between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, Super Contest entrants should be happy to get a half-point for both sides. The Vikings edged the Bears 20-17 as 3-point favorites in a sloppy game that they led 3-2 at halftime and needed backup quarterback Case Keenum to step up in relief of Sam Bradford after the intermission to earn the win. Bradford returned briefly from a knee injury but was ineffective, completing five of 11 passes for just 36 yards.

The debut of Chicago rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had some positives for his backers along with some negatives, the biggest being his first career interception with 2:32 to go in a 17-17 tie that helped set up Minnesota’s game-winning field goal. When all was said and done, six Team OddsShark members walked away with a push, including 2016 group champion Frank Schwab, who went 3-1-1 to improve to 17-7-1. Schwab’s team-best mark in Week 5 was shared by three other members, including Paolo Antunes, Matt Ufford and Nick Kostos. Antunes moved into sole possession of seventh place in the team standings with 14.5 points while Ufford and Kostos are each now only one point away from a winning record with 12 out of a possible 25 points.

Seven more Team OddsShark members went 3-2 in Week 5 while one went 2-2-1 and 10 others finished at 2-3. Ty Schalter and Joe Ostrowski were two of the seven who had a 3-2 mark, and that was enough to bump them up into third and fourth place in the group, respectively. Newcomer Jason Kirk suffered his second losing week at 2-3 and fell into second place from a tie for first with Schwab while UFC ring girl Jhenny Andrade did the same and is now tied with Richard Roeper for fifth with 15 points.

Unfortunately, there were also two 1-4 performances in Week 5 by Jon Anik and Ryan Fowler. Anik’s rough week dropped him into a tie for 22nd in the group with Will Brinson and Clay Travis while Fowler continues to sit in the cellar of the team standings.
