Tennis Betting Props: Will Bianca Andreescu Get The No. 1 Ranking or Win a Grand Slam?

Bianca Andreescu Tennis Betting Props August 20, 2019

The Women’s Tennis Association is always looking for the heir apparent to Serena Williams and one particular player has vaulted up the rankings after defeating her at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Nineteen-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu is now ranked 14th in the world after two tournament wins in 2019 and online sportsbooks have released betting props for whether the teenager will win on the Grand Slam stage (+600) or make it to the No. 1 ranking (+1000), both by the end of 2020.

Let’s look into Andreescu’s meteoric rise and if she can make it to the mountaintop of the WTA:

WTA Top Ranking Is There For the Taking

The one thing that differs from the ATP and the WTA is the consistency of the upper echelon of players. In the ATP, it’s the same three guys (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer) who are always competing in the Grand Slams and it shouldn’t shock you that those three have combined to win every major since the start of 2017 (11 total).

But with the WTA, a new player/winner seems to emerge from each Grand Slam and the No. 1 ranking changes frequently. In that same span since the start of 2017, there have been nine new Grand Slam winners with the WTA. This is why Bianca Andreescu makes an interesting betting case to hit one of these two props. The young Canadian won at Indian Wells back in March and is coming off a stunning win in her home country at the Rogers Cup in Toronto over Serena Williams to move into 14th in the WTA rankings.

However, outside of those two wins, she has been plagued with injuries to her shoulder and back, which has caused her to miss significant amounts of time this season. She didn’t participate at the 2019 Australian Open, had to withdraw in the second round at the French Open and missed Wimbledon entirely due to her shoulder injury.

How To Bet These Bianca Props

My only concern with these betting props is they don’t feel mutually exclusive. Players rarely get the No. 1 ranking on the WTA tour unless they win a Grand Slam or string together a series of wins from the lesser tournaments. Andreescu’s recent injuries have limited her significantly and if she can’t stay on the court, the top ranking will be out of grasp.

As for the “Winning a Grand Slam by end of 2020” prop, I think bettors would get the best value by just betting on her to win the whole thing for each individual tournament. She currently has +1400 odds to win the U.S. Open in September and +1400 to win the Australian Open in January 2020. Hardcourts is where she has been the most successful in her career so I would start there for the best value and see if she can be the first Canadian to ever win a Grand Slam title on the WTA circuit.
