Bellator 206: Mousasi vs MacDonald Betting Odds and Pick

Bellator 206: Mousasi vs MacDonald Betting Odds and Pick

The biggest fight in Bellator’s history is set to take place this Saturday at the SAP Center in San Jose, California as current welterweight champion Rory “Red King” MacDonald moves up to middleweight to take on current middleweight champion Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi. With MacDonald making the jump up in weight, he is a +195 underdog with Mousasi coming back as a -250 favorite.

Gegard Mousasi vs Rory MacDonald

It is not a surprise to see the current middleweight champ as a favorite in this upcoming superfight, as Mousasi is on a seven-fight winning streak. Additionally, The Dreamcatcher has been favored in his last 10 fights by an average of -387. The Dutch fighter has tremendous experience, holding a professional record of 44-6-2. Meanwhile, this is the first time in 14 fights that MacDonald is an underdog, being a favorite by an average of -266. This is a close fight between two champions but I think the odds are right where they should be.

Mousasi (-250) has an aggressive style with true knockout power, ending 25 of his 44 professional wins by T/KO, with 21 of those coming in the first round. The 33-year-old also has 12 submissions to his name, making him a dangerous well-rounded competitor. Mousasi was on a five-fight winning streak in the UFC, but after getting passed over for a title shot, he elected to sign with Bellator after his contract was up. The Dreamcatcher has rattled off two straight victories since making the move to his new promotion, including a first-round TKO finish over Rafael Carvalho at Bellator 200 to win the middleweight belt.

MacDonald (+195) has the heart of a warrior and above-average wrestling. The Canadian challenged for the UFC welterweight belt but was outlasted by Robbie Lawler, losing via TKO in the fifth round in that fight. He then took a decision loss to Stephen Thompson before leaving for Bellator. Red King earned a second-round submission win over Paul Daley in his Bellator debut and followed that with a five-round war with Douglas Lima to win the welterweight belt at Bellator 192. The 29-year-old has a 20-4 record with seven wins coming by T/KO, seven by submission and six by decision.

These two fighters have had some bad blood since moving to Bellator and that will boil over when the two enter the cage on Saturday. MacDonald will need to get this fight to the ground if he wants to find success over Mousasi, but getting in close against the middleweight champ holds its own danger as The Dreamcatcher has vicious power that can end the fight. Look for Mousasi to exercise the lower-leg kick in this fight as Lima did this to MacDonald and found great success, nearly ending the fight. Don’t expect either of these fighters to shy away in this fight as there is pride and glory on the line between the two champions.

Prediction: Gegard Mousasi (-250) via technical knockout
