Bellator 42 Fight Card Preview

Season Four of the Bellator Fighting Championships is nearing an end as the promotion takes the action to Concho, Oklahoma for Bellator 42. Two semifinal Light Heavyweight tournament matches are scheduled, as well as the Bellator debut of Sengoku veteran and Sharkfights Featherweight title holder Ronnie Mann.

In one of the Light Heavyweight tournament semifinal fights Richard Hale (16-3-1) will battle D.J. Linderman (9-1) for a spot in the finals. Oddsmakers at 5Dimes have the best price on the Hale at -130, while Bovada will pay +110 on a Linderman upset. Hale has only one majority decision loss in his last 14 fights and he looked very impressive in his Bellator debut with his inverted triangle choke over Nik Fekete.

Linderman is a heavy puncher who could surprise with an upset win, but we think he’s going to be in against an experienced Hale who will have an answer for anything he does. We like Hale via unanimous decision.

The other Bellator Light Heavyweight tournament semifinal will pit undefeated Tim Carpenter against the very tough Christian M’Pumbu. The lines in this fight are not as close as we expected them to be, and we think this fight could go either way. Carpenter gets the favorite -190 line at 5Dimes while the M’Pumbu upset will pay +165 at 5Dimes. We like the upset potential in this one and think that M’Pumbu just might be worth the risk.

Featherweight Ronnie Mann will make his Bellator debut against Josh Arocho. It looks like Mann has been offered a sacrificial lamb in Arocho, who’s 6-9-0, and the MMA betting lines are a reflection of this. Mann will be a -660 favorite to win, while Arocho gets a chance to kick-start his fighting career with a timely upset over a big name. A successful bet on Arocho will pay +480 at 5Dimes, but it’s not recommended here.

Bantamweights will round out the main card for Bellator 42 when Jerod Spoon steps into the cage against Luiz Nogueira. Both fighters are making their Bellator debut and are coming into this fight with long winning streaks. Nogueira is a highly-touted prospect who’s been fighting in the Shooto promotion and is expected to make his presence known in Bellator.

Oddsmakers at Bovada think that Nogueira will have an easy time with Spoon and have him as a -340 favorite. Spoon will pay +280 at 5Dimes if he can find a way to pull off the upset, but he’s likely going to be outclassed and submitted inside of two rounds.
