Where Will St-Pierre Fight Next?

The breakup between Georges St-Pierre and the UFC does not seem to be as clean as the former welterweight champion made it appear.

Though GSP and his lawyer have said that his contract with the UFC has been terminated, Zuffa released a statement saying "Georges St-Pierre remains under an existing agreement with Zuffa, LLC as his MMA promoter. Zuffa intends to honor its agreement with St-Pierre and reserves its rights under the law to have St-Pierre do the same."

This is not the first time a fighter has claimed that he was a free agent only to have the UFC step in and shoot that down. However, GSP may be the biggest name to do so with such dismissal toward the organization.

“Most fighters in the UFC, they are starving," GSP said on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. "And for UFC, it's very easy when you keep a lot of your staff starving, they are easier to control."

Where St-Pierre goes from here is anyone’s guess. It is more than likely that the new ownership group will figure out how to reconcile with GSP – including a big speed bump surrounding Reebok's deal with the UFC and St-Pierre’s personal appeal sponsors. Bovada is listing GSP to have his next fight within the UFC at -220.

St-Pierre heading to any other organization could be a coup, with the odds being posted at +155. If any organization makes the most sense, it may be Bellator. Viacom – the owners of Bellator – have deep pockets and the willingness to whip out their chequebooks. Plus, longtime GSP training partner Rory MacDonald recently signed a large contract with Bellator.
