Sonnen vs Liddell Betting Odds

Yes, it is completely absurd. Yes, it’s the year 2017. But that has not stopped online books from posting a betting line on a potential bout between Chael Sonnen and Chuck Liddell.

This whole story really stems from a picture Liddell posted on his Instagram account months back looking in tremendous shape despite being 47 years old and not fighting since June 2010. The always-speculating MMA Twitter-sphere lost their collective mind with the potential comeback from The Iceman.

The grumbles only grew louder when Liddell’s trainer, John Hackleman, went on the Anik and Florian Podcast and said “Like I always said, it’s whatever is in (Liddell’s) heart. Three million bucks? Who is gonna tell someone, ‘No. I’m not gonna allow you to make three million dollars, which is more than most people make in three lifetimes.’ ”

Adding more fuel to the fire, Liddell told TMZ “I’ve never been very interested in fighting (Sonnen). If I was gonna come back, it’s a good one. It’s a good warm-up fight. He’s got a big mouth but not much behind it.”

So, here we are. I still highly doubt that Liddell comes out of retirement considering his long layoff and the fact that he was brutally knocked out several times near the end of his career. However, money talks and Bellator – where Sonnen is currently under contract – has had no problems promoting shows around borderline decrepit fighters before.

At this point, Sonnen is a known commodity with The American Gangster fighting in Bellator twice in 2017 and competing in an exhibition grappling match at the ADCC. This is likely a big reason why Sonnen opened as a -155 favorite for a potential bout with Liddell, who came back at +135.
