UFC 189 Odds: McGregor Round 2 KO?

Conor McGregor apparently bet UFC boss Dana White $3 million that he will knock out Chad Mendes in the second round of UFC 189 in Las Vegas.

While that wager is probably using ‘house money’ (perhaps it’s a deal where the Notorious One would get a slice of PPV money), it shows he is supremely confident that he can defeat new opponent Mendes, just a week after Jose Aldo withdrew with a rib injury.

Now online sportsbook Bovada has joined the betting talk with UFC betting odds on that outcome. And if fans believe McGregor will KO Mendes in the second round, it’s a +500 payout. Said another way, bet $100 and profit $500.

“There was plenty of hype around this fight already and this proposed wager by McGregor just adds fuel to the UFC 189 odds fire,” said Kevin Bradley of Bovada.lv.

“When he called a second-round KO, we looked to see what the odds would be. Mendes is a formidable foe, but McGregor has been correct in the past and we believe 5-1 odds is correct here.”

McGregor has called first-round knockouts in the past and most recently apologized for failing to finish Dennis Siver in less than two minutes. He clarified later it should have been less than two rounds, after battering the stout German in January.

He also predicted that Aldo would sustain an injury and be unable to fight on July 11. That antagonized the longtime Featherweight Champion, who did suffer a rib injury in training.

Betting continues to roll in on McGregor and he is now a -190 favorite at Bovada. The fight card is stacked with Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler a surprising underdog to Rory MacDonald in the co-Main Event.
