After what seems like an eternity, Georges St-Pierre appears to be returning to the UFC. Reports surfaced on February 15 that GSP and the UFC are close to finalizing a multi-fight deal that would see the former welterweight champion return to the Octagon for the first time in over three years. Just two days later, news broke that GSP was officially on his way back to the UFC.

After months of on-again, off-again negotiations, there has been plenty of speculation as to whom GSP would face in his long-awaited return. Bovada opened Michael Bisping as the +130 favortie to be St-Pierre’s first opponent. Bisping and GSP have been lobbying for a fight for some time now and ‘Rush’ has certainly earned an immediate title shot upon his return.

However, it’s also worth noting that GSP may be the biggest draw in MMA not named Conor McGregor. With UFC PPV buys not being the strongest, a big-money fight may be the way GSP makes his return. Not to say a title shot wouldn’t generate buys, but there are potential fights that could make a run at the all-time sales record.

The most obvious of these money fights is Anderson Silva. Every MMA fan has wanted to see GSP vs Silva for the better part of a decade, as both men reigned over their divisions with total dominance during the mid-to-late 2000s. Neither of the men seemed overly anxious to make this fight happen during their heyday, but both GSP and Silva have seemed to soften their stance over the years. It doesn’t matter that Silva is 41 and has one victory in the past five years or that GSP hasn’t stepped foot inside the cage since 2013, this fight would still generate a crazy amount of money.

Of course, the biggest money fight may very well be GSP vs McGregor. MMA fans want to see it and there is no doubt that a PPV headlined by those two would break the buy record. Oddly enough, there was no line posted for ‘The Notorious One’ to be St-Pierre’s return fight. Maybe books are already looking toward the mega-fight between McGregor and Floyd Mayweather (insert sigh of acceptance here).
