In what could be the most intriguing heavyweight bout the UFC has seen in years, champion Stipe Miocic will put his title on the line against undefeated challenger Francis Ngannou at UFC 220.
With the backing of the UFC, fans globally and his absurd punching power, Ngannou opened as a -150 favorite for the bout vs Miocic. The reigning champ found himself coming back at +120 – the first time he would be an underdog since he won the title from Fabricio Werdum.
Ngannou has left behind a wake of broken bodies on his trail to the UFC championship. Since joining the organization, he is 6-0 with five victories by knockout and one by submission (aka maiming). When you combine Ngannou’s natural size and athleticism with his rapidly growing skills, there is no doubt he will wear the gold at some point.
Miocic does seem to be getting overlooked in this bout, as he may have the most technically sound striking game in the entire division. The champion is amazing at controlling the distance of a fight, which allows him to determine the rules of engagement. Plus, he is a former D1 wrestler who has more than adequate grappling skills.
