MMA betting ramps up this weekend as the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament continues with Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum.
The two remaining quarterfinal matchups in the tournament headline the main card this weekend; the Heavyweight bouts are Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum, and Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers and the underdog bettors know the best place to visit for the best Strikeforce lines. [ Sportsbook ]
Overeem vs. Werdum is the main event on the card, as Overeem is also the reigning Strikeforce Heavyweight champion. Not surprisingly Overeem is a big favorite on the MMA odds at Sportsbook at -500. Overeem is undefeated in his last 10 fights with only a no-contest against Mirko Filiopovic sullying his record during that time.
Overeem has won his last three fights by knockout, including his last bout against Todd Duffee in December which he won by KO just 19 seconds into the Sportsbook round. Overeem's lifetime MMA record stands at 34-11 with one no-contest with 14 wins by KO and 19 by submission. [ Check out another Strikeforce betting preview here ]
No one is really giving Werdum a chance in the fight, and at Sportsbook he is a +300 underdog on the MMA odds. Werdum has won his last three fights and the last time he fought at a Strikeforce event in June 2010 he shocked the world by defeating Fedor Emelianenko, handing Fedor his first defeat in 10 years. Werdum may be a big underdog again this weekend but he has defeated Overeem before - he faced Overeem at a PRIDE event in 2006 and defeated him by submission. Werdum's record heading into the rematch is 14-4-1 with eight wins by submission.
In the other quarterfinal matchup Barnett is the big favorite at Sportsbook at -365. Barnett has a six-fight winning streak going after defeating Geronimo dos Santos by TKO in his last bout in July 2010. Barnett has won his last four fights in impressive fashion with two KO wins and two wins by submission. His lifetime MMA record stands at 29-5 with seven wins by KO and 17 by submission.
Rogers is a +285 underdog versus Barnett as he tries to string together back-to-back wins for the first time since 2009. Barnett did win his last fight against Ruben Villareal by unanimous decision in October. Before that he lost his last two fights, both by KO - but they were tough matchups against Overeem and Emelianenko. Rogers owns an 11-2 record, with 10 of his wins coming via KO.
