Strikeforce Challengers 13

Undefeated Welterweight wrecking machine Tyron Woodley gets his next big test against the skilled-striking Tarec Saffiedine at Strikeforce Challengers 13 on Friday, and if he’s unable to get the fight on the ground he might be in for a very long night.

Woodley (7-0-0) is an accomplished amateur wrestler but has not been training in MMA very long. He will come into this fight as the favorite, and if he’s able to get Saffiedine (10-2-0) on the ground at any point in the fight his “ground and pound” and submission skills will likely be enough to get the win.

If Saffiedine is able to be the first opponent to stuff all of Woodley’s takedowns, like he did against Brock Larson in his last fight, his striking skills are more than enough to dominate Woodley in a stand-up battle.

It’s only a matter of time before someone exposes Woodley’s inexperience, and the MMA odds on him losing keep getting better with every fight.

Another undefeated Strikeforce prospect will take a step up in competition when Heavyweight Daniel Cormier (6-0-0) faces MMA veteran Devin Cole (18-8-1). Cormier is an outstanding wrestler with vicious ground and pound skills while Cole is an experienced fighter who has fought some big names.

Unfortunately for Cole he lost all of those fights, and will likely lose again on Friday night.

This is essentially another warm-up fight for Cormier, and a bet on Cole would be a poor choice in our opinion, regardless of the MMA odds at fight time. Cormier will be heavily favored for a reason and should submit Cole inside of two rounds.

Strikeforce continues to bring MMA fans some of the best female fight action out there, and ShoMMA 13 has interesting matchup in the Women’s Middleweight (145lbs) division. Julia Budd (1-0-0) will be looking to start her MMA career with two wins when she faces Brazilian Amanda Nunes (5-1-0).

Nunes will be a heavy favorite to extend her five-fight win streak to six against the inexperienced Budd, and would be the way to go as long as the price on her isn’t too expensive. There are lots of upsets in women’s MMA, but a bet on Budd against a skilled opponent like Nunes would have to come with a huge payday.
