UFC 124 Upset Bets

The MMA betting lines for UFC 124 are offering fight fans a couple of underdog opportunities for this weekend with John Howard and mac Danzig shaping up as interesting plays.

Betting against heavily-favored Welterweight champion George St-Pierre may be ill-advised, but Howard (14-5-0) and Danzig (20-7-1) are looking like they both have a decent chance to upset their opponents and win as MMA betting underdogs.

As a +240 underdog at 5Dimes, Howard will not have it easy when he steps into the Octagon against the hard-hitting Thiago Alves (17-7-0). The one-time No.1 Welterweight contender has dropped his last two fights but will still come into this one as the -280 favorite.

Alves continues to fight at Welterweight despite having a great deal of difficulty making the weight, and if cutting for this fight drains his energy in the Octagon he’s going to be a sitting duck for the vicious striking skills of Howard.

If this fight goes to the ground at any point it will be because one fighter is getting the best of it in the stand-up battle. Both will want to stand and bang, so don’t leave the room for a cold beverage during this one - you just might end up missing the fireworks.

The other underdog pick goes to a very desperate Danzig, who will be fighting for his UFC life against Joe Stevenson (31-11-0). MMA betting lines at 5Dimes have him as the +250 underdog, and Danzig knows that he will be shown the door out of the UFC if he is unable to turn around a fight record that is 3-6 over his last nine.

Stevenson isn’t the force he once was in the Lightweight division and has dropped four of his last seven fights. He doesn’t seem to have the heart for fighting that he used to since suffering a devastating loss to B.J. Penn nearly three years ago, but because of his wrestling skills he will still come into the bout as the heavy Bovada -300 favorite.
