UFC 125 Odds Preview

It’s not often that you see a UFC champion enter the Octagon as an underdog, but that’s what Frank Edgar is going to be at UFC 125 when he defends his Lightweight title against Gray Maynard.

Maynard will be the MMA odds favorite to become the new UFC Lightweight Champion. Despite being the challenger, the cheapest line on Maynard will be -140 at Bovada. The undefeated wrestler had little trouble against Edgar (+125 at 5Dimes) in their first meeting and will likely be too much for the smaller champion to handle once again.

The co-main event of the UFC 125 fight card has the potential to be a classic. Ultra-tough Chris Leben (21-6-0) will face a real-life hero in the Silver Star winning former Marine Officer Brian Stann (9-3-0). He’s the same Brian Stann that was the WEC Light Heavyweight champion a while back.

Leben is coming off three impressive victories, including an exciting submission win over Yoshihiro Akiyama his last time in the Octagon. A bet on the favorite Leben is as cheap as -165 at 5Dimes, while underdog Stann will pay as much as +155 at Bovada.

Look for Leben to wear down the ex-Marine and either win via a unanimous decision or a third-round TKO.

The other exciting fight on the UFC 125 card has UFC veteran Brandon Vera (11-5-0) going up against Brazilian slugger Thiago Silva (14-2-0). Silva has only lost to former Light Heavyweight champions Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida, and he will be the -155 favorite on the MMA odds at 5Dimes against Vera, who has gone 3-5 in his last eight fights.

Vera will pay as much as +135 at Sports Interaction and just might be worth the risk for the upset victory. It was the distance striking of Machida that KOed Silva at UFC 94, and Vera’s strengths are striking from the outside.
