UFC 144 Odds: Edgar vs. Henderson

MMA betting fans have an opportunity to take advantage of a low price on one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport this weekend at UFC 144, but the price is cheap for a reason.

Oddsmakers at 5Dimes currently have UFC odds of -130 on Frank Edgar to defend his Lightweight title against Ben Henderson. That price has climbed slightly from -125, but in our opinion remains an MMA betting bargain.

When one considers the epic battles Edgar had against Gray Maynard and B.J. Penn it’s tough to bet against him, even when the opponent is Henderson.

Henderson has had to live with being known as the guy that got kicked in the face by Anthony Pettis in a highlight-reel clip. That was more than two years ago and since then Henderson has gone 3-0, earning a Lightweight title shot against Edgar at UFC 144 this weekend.

The upset odds payout of +110 at 5Dimes seems a bit slim when one considers he’s stepping into the Octagon against one of the pound-for-pound best.

Yoshihiro Akiyama  +270
Jake Shields    -330

Takanori Gomi   -200

Hatsu Hioki    -170
Yushin Okami    -350
Tim Boetsch    +290

Frank Edgar    -130
Benson Henderson+110

Quinton Jackson is currently a -245 favorite at 5Dimes to defeat Ryan Bader. Bader has not been very good against the big-name Light Heavyweights, and they don’t come much bigger, or stronger, than Jackson. Even at UFC odds of +205 the upset option on Bader isn’t very tempting.

Also on the UFC 144 pay-per-view fight card, Pettis will look to get a step closer to his Lightweight title shot with a win over Joe Lauzon. Oddsmakers at 5Dimes have UFC odds of -260 on Pettis while the Lauzon upset will currently pay +180.

The Pettis price looks a bit expensive considering the improvement Lauzon has shown in his last two fights. The value looks to be in the upset bet in this matchup.
