UFC 198: Maia vs Brown Betting Odds

The prelims of UFC 198 will feature a huge matchups between Demian Maia and Matt Brown – a fight that would easily be the co-main event on almost any other card. The welterweight division is so deep and talent-laden in the UFC that a win in this bout will likely be nothing more than a stepping-stone for either fighter.

Maia has opened as a sizable -300 favorite with Brown coming back at +230 per Bovada.

Until someone can prove otherwise, Maia is he greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner in MMA history. Maia is coming off a bout with Gunnar Nelson – who was supposed to give the Brazilian a tough task on the ground – in which he dominated another BJJ black belt for 15 minutes. Not to say that Maia is completely out of his element standing up, as he has spent considerable time working on his striking game to help compliment his world class BJJ.

Brown is basically the definition of a grinder. ‘The Immortal’ is incredibly tough and loves to get into striking exchanges where he can use his criminally underrated precision to land bombs. Brown isn’t overly strong in his wrestling game, but his affinity for knee strikes makes doing so a tough task for opponents. Though Brown has a brown belt in BJJ and has solid submission skills, he will want this fight to remain standing.
