UFC 215: Nunes vs Shevchenko Betting Odds

Amanda Nunes rose through a time of uncertainty and unpredictability in the UFC women’s bantamweight division to prove herself the best 135-er in the world. She might be facing the stiffest challenge to her gold when she takes on Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event of UFC 215.

Nunes and Shevchenko have already met once in their careers, at UFC 196. The future champion eventually walked away with the decision victory but the fight was a microcosm of her career. Nunes came out red-hot in that bout and aggressively attacked Shevchenko through the first 10 minutes. However, Nunes appeared to gas and Shevchenko dominated in the third round. Though that fight was over a year ago, one needs to think cardio could play a huge factor in a five-round bout.

The line opened tight, with Nunes being pegged as a slight -125 favorite and Shevchenko at -105, for their originally scheduled rematch at UFC 213. After that match got postponed and rescheduled for UFC 215, the line reopened with Shevchenko as a -125 favorite.

Nunes is a finisher, with “The Lioness” earning 13 of her 14 wins via stoppage – Shevchenko is the only fighter Nunes has beaten by decision. The champion is learning to harness her length and power in the standup game instead of resting solely on her athleticism like earlier in her career. She is powerful and has brutal ground and pound.

Shevchenko is an accomplished Muay Thai practitioner who looks to dictate a fight with her range and skill. The Peruvian is patient and tends to wait to capitalize on her opponent’s mistake on the feet. Shevchenko is precise, technical and has cardio for days.
