UFC Fight Night: Cerrone vs Till Betting Odds and Preview

The Octagon sets up shop in Poland for just the second time as the UFC descends on Gdansk this Saturday. Like many of these destination cards, it is filled with plenty of local (-ish) talent looking to make their mark in front of the UFC fans.

The main event embodies this idea, as youngster Darren Till looks to prove his place in the division when he takes on stalwart Donald Cerrone.

Donald Cerrone vs Darren Till

Donald Cerrone (-160) is first and foremost a master of distance who dictates the fight with his vicious leg kicks. When he is given the space to work and create while striking, he is able to carve up any opponent he faces. However, pressure has caused issues for Cerrone in the past — see his fight vs Jorge Masvidal.

Though it’s often overlooked, Cerrone is also a submission ace. He is extremely active from the guard and always looks for the finish when the fight goes to the mat. Cerrone isn’t exactly a stud in terms of offensive wrestling but you can’t really take him down due to his length and typically long striking style.

Darren Till (+130) is a patient striker who builds his game plan around countering. The 24-year-old will pressure his opponent with his footwork but typically waits for his opponent to make a mistake before exploding with a single powerful shot. However, his wide base and patient style mean he could be picked apart by a fighter who can capably move and fight from a distance.

Till won’t be looking for anything other than a reactionary takedown, but once on top he has some good ground and pound – though he still can be a little too patient. Fighters are usually concerned about shooting a takedown on Till with his power, but if you can get top control, the Brit has shown some issues.

Cerrone is looking to rebound after a couple of tough losses against the elite in the division while Till is trying to prove he belongs. If Till can give Cerrone as little space as possible, he has a chance to land his huge counter-strike but “Cowboy” could chew his opponent up from range with leg kicks.

Other Notable Fights

The co-main event pits Polish Karolina Kowalkiewicz (-450) against UFC newcomer Jodie Esquibel (+325). Kowalkiewicz has experience in several types of martial arts that emphasize striking. She is at her best when she can use her constant foot movement to move in and out of range while landing quick combos. She likes to work a constant pace on the feet and looks to overwhelm her opponent. Opponents often look to shoot on Kowalkiewicz and get her on the ground, which is much easier said than done. Esquibel took to MMA later than most after starting her combat sports career as a pro boxer. She is more of a grinder who looks to wear down her opponent with excellent technique in the striking game. If Esquibel finds her back on the mat, she can get overwhelmed.

A fight going under the radar is Marcin Held (-400) taking on Nasrat Haqparast (+300), who is making his debut on short notice. Held is a highly touted youngster who has struggled mightily since joining the UFC. The Polish fighter is a submission ace but tends to burn the gas tank early – and doesn’t have the best wrestling ability to take his opponent down. Haqparast is a stud of a prospect who has rattled off eight straight wins on the regional scene. The 22-year-old is an aggressive knockout artist who doesn’t have the best technique but overwhelms opponents. As long as Haqparast can avoid the takedown early, he has a chance to make this really interesting.
