UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs Gastelum Betting Odds and Preview

There is no rest for the wicked, as Michael Bisping will step inside the Octagon just three weeks after losing his UFC middleweight title to take on Kelvin Gastelum in Shanghai, China. Bisping is taking this fight on short notice after Gastelum’s original opponent Anderson Silva was flagged by the USADA.

This card features plenty of unknowns to many UFC fans, as nine fighters are making their promotional debuts.

Michael Bisping vs Kelvin Gastelum

Bisping (+225) is at his best when he can wear down his opponent over time with his volume striking. “The Count” implements this largely thanks to his amazing cardio, as he is the rare breed of fighter who gets more active as a fight wears on. With better footwork and a more patient style, he has been able to avoid firefights that plagued him earlier in his career.

Bisping’s grappling is sufficient but he is not likely to stop a good takedown artist. Rather, the former champion is adept at creating scrambles and getting back to his feet where he is much more comfortable.

Gastelum (-285) has the speed and aggression in the striking department to help overcome his size disadvantage at middleweight. He overwhelms his opponent with volume and will constantly probe with his jab. He is primarily a boxer in the standup game but his feet are just as dangerous due to his speed and movement.

Gastelum’s athleticism helps greatly in his wrestling game, as his takedowns are largely based on an opportunistic explosion. That doesn’t help with his defense, as he is far from the best in that aspect. Gastelum has always had difficulty with high-quality wrestlers and that could only grow given the jump up to middleweight.

These two have similar styles, as they look to push the pace and wear down opponents with their striking. You should expect both Bisping and Gastelum to want to battle once they step inside the Octagon. However, how is Bisping going to fare just three weeks after a loss and with his self-announced retirement imminent?
