UFC Fight Night 24 Preview

MMA bettors get a second consecutive week of action this Saturday when the UFC puts on a stellar card of free fights for UFC Fight Night 24.

Headlining the event will be the undefeated Light Heavyweight prospect Phil Davis taking on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Davis gets the chance to elevate himself into the upper echelon of the Light Heavyweight rankings with a win over the vastly more experienced “Little Nog”. Despite having only four fights in the Octagon Davis will be a -167 favorite at 5Dimes. That looks like a real bargain considering that some books have him priced as high as -330.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has not exactly impressed since coming into the UFC. His last two fights were a controversial decision win over Jason Brilz and a decision loss to Ryan Bader. It was Bader’s wrestling skills that were the difference in that fight, and it will be the wrestling skills of Davis that will be the difference on Saturday night.

The +270 underdog line at 5Dimes on Nogueira does not look very appealing to us.

Dan Hardy will get what could be his last chance to be somebody in the UFC when he faces lethal striker Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. It was only a year ago that Hardy fought for the Welterweight title, but now he’s an underdog against a fighter that has lost three of his last seven fights.

If Daley is able to get back to his former self and beat Johnson he will pay as much as +155 at Bovada.

Anthony Johnson has been affected by issues outside of the Octagon for the past couple of years but now seems to be running on all cylinders. He should bring a pace that Hardy will not be able to handle and will come cheap; as low as -165 at 5Dimes.

The bet on the UFC Fight Night 24 card where you might find an upset edge is in the DaMarques Johnson vs. Amir Sadollah fight. Sadollah is a one-dimensional grappler with little to offer in the stand up game. Johnson has evolved into an all-around fighter that can easily win if he can stay off his back.

The upset will pay as much as +190 at Bovada.

The rest of the fights on the card are (see 5Dimes for odds this week).
