This isn’t exactly the MMA news fans expected for the women’s featherweight division within the UFC, but I guess it’s something. Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie will face off at UFC 208 with the Sportsbook being crowned the first 145 lbs champion in the UFC.
With many more questions than answers, Sportsbook lines hit the board with both Holm and de Randamie coming in at -115. Since then, de Randamie has shifted to the -130 favorite.
The first question everyone asks (once you are done wondering why Cyborg is not fighting for this belt) is: how will fighting at 145 affect these women? Holm has fought her entire MMA career at 135 but had traditionally fought anywhere between 132 and 152 lbs during her boxing career. De Randamie fought at featherweight twice in her pro-MMA career but has not done so since joining the UFC in 2013.
This should be an intriguing matchup between two elite-level strikers who specialize in different disciplines. Holm is a multiple-time boxing champion at several weight classes and has applied these skills expertly in the Octagon. De Randamie is a world-renowned Muay Thai practitioner who uses her length and strong clinch to dictate the pace of a fight.
