Odds as of May 16 at Bovada

The last time out, it looked as though Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem (+120) had a third straight win, but a knockout with just four seconds remaining in the fifth round vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik dashed those hopes. Meanwhile, Walt “The Big Ticket” Harris (-150) hasn’t tasted defeat since November 2017, riding a four-fight unbeaten streak with three of those being knockout victories.

The Demolition Man is a decorated kickboxer who is competing in his 65th pro MMA fight, holding a record of 45-18 with one no contest. Overeem has good patience, reading his opponents’ movements before deciding how he wants to approach the fight. He has great kicks and more recently has started to evolve his game with better grappling skills.

Harris is more aggressive and moves quite well for a big heavyweight. Typically, he will push forward but waits on the outside of his counterparts’ range looking to counter with heavy hands. When he goes on the attack, though, he has fantastic combinations that are fast and accurate. All 13 of his pro wins have come by knockout.

Prediction: Alistair Overeem (+120) via decision

Claudia Gadelha-225
Angela Hill+175

Odds as of May 16 at Bovada

With this walk to the Octagon, Angela “Overkill” Hill (+175) will join nine other fighters for the most fights in a calendar year with five. She has won each of her last three fights, her longest winning streak since she won four in a row in 2016. As for Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha (-225), she’s been on a win-one, lose-one streak over her last five bouts, looking for her first winning streak since 2016-17.

Overkill has a very high pace, constantly backing her opponents down with plenty of feints and strikes. This uptempo style has seen her average 5.74 significant strikes per minute but she also absorbs 5.13. Her boxing is very crisp with a nice jab which she uses to stick and move or set up a heavier hook.

Gadelha has a little more pop in her strikes, despite having just two knockout victories in her career. She has exceptional reflexes that are on full display with her head movement, moving out of the way of danger and firing back with stiff straights. That said, her bread and butter is her grappling. She averages 3.34 takedowns per 15 minutes and on the floor she weighs heavy with solid ground and pound.

Prediction: Claudia Gadelha (-225) via decision

Edson Barboza vs Dan Ige

Edson Barboza-145
Dan Ige+115

Odds as of May 16 at Bovada

After dropping his UFC debut in January 2018, “Dynamite” Dan Ige (+115) has gone on a tear, winning five straight fights with his most recent being a split-decision victory over Mirsad Bektic in February. Trending in the opposite direction is Edson Barboza (-145), who has dropped four of his last five fights. But those opponents were some of the best in the lightweight division, which is why he’s making his debut in the featherweight division.

The Brazilian, Barboza, has ridiculous power and speed with his kicks and he varies them up from low, middle and high. He has stopped several fights with leg kicks that leave his opponents unable to stand and he throws those kicks early and often. However, in focusing so much on the kicks, he tends to disregard punches that come toward his head and that has resulted in him getting battered recently.

Meanwhile, the Hawaii native, Ige, is very aggressive, backing his opponents down and daring them to get into exchanges with him. Dynamite has terrific boxing, taking his head off the centerline while throwing powerful accurate hooks. He lands 3.89 significant strikes per minute while only absorbing 2.69. Additionally, Ige averages 2.38 takedowns per 15 minutes and has landed at least one in each of his six UFC fights.

Prediction: Edson Barboza (-145) via decision

Eryk Anders vs Krzysztof Jotko

Eryk Anders+125
Krzysztof Jotko-155

Odds as of May 16 at Bovada

A winning streak will come to an end in this fight. Eryk “Ya Boi” Anders (+125) rebounded from a three-fight losing streak by collecting two consecutive wins to close out 2019. A similar story can be written about Krzysztof Jotko (-155), who also had three straight losses but scored back-to-back decision wins in 2019.

Anders is a tough, hard-nosed fighter who continues to evolve in the Octagon. Ya Boi likes to close the distance standing just outside of striking range where he will consistently feint and look for his opportunity to storm in with heavy strikes. The former Alabama linebacker has a lot of power in his hands but his technique can be a little sloppy, really loading up for the knockout punch.

Jotko is more active on his feet, constantly dancing around to create distance so he can let his strong kicks go. Those kicks can quickly be a difference-maker, as he throws them very fast and accurately. Although he uses great footwork to avoid danger, he does have a bad tendency of no head movement and keeping his chin up in the air, leaving him vulnerable to power punches.

Prediction: Krzysztof Jotko (-155) via decision

Marlon Vera vs Yadong Song

Marlon Vera+160
Yadong Song-200

Odds as of May 16 at Bovada

A pair of fighters with unbeaten streaks will kick off our main card in a wild way. Marlon “Chito” Vera (+160) is currently on a five-fight winning streak, with each of those wins being finishes. In fact, all but one of his nine UFC wins have been finishes. Meanwhile, Yadong “Kung Fu Monkey” Song (-200) is unbeaten in his last eight fights with a record of 7-0-1, getting a majority draw in his last fight vs Cody Stamann after having a point deducted in the first round.

Chito is very calm in the Octagon, always walking toward his foes, throwing long kicks and feinting with his hands. He is extremely explosive and unorthodox, which was on full display when he attempted a head and arm choke that started on the feet in his last fight. At times in striking exchanges he covers up defensively, failing to throw back, but when he’s on the attack he has tremendous swagger, accuracy and power.

Kung Fu Monkey is extremely fast and versatile, mixing up kicks, knees and punches. He has outstruck four of his five opponents in the UFC, averaging 3.54 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.74. Song does a great job throwing a flurry of punches, then backing off to plot his next attack, and he doesn’t mind testing his chin by eating a couple of punches as his power is quite legit for the bantamweight division.

Prediction: Yadong Song (-200) via decision
