With a perfect 50-0 record in boxing and wealth most of us can only dream of, Floyd Mayweather has nothing to prove. However, Mayweather is never far from the spotlight or the ravenous hordes of combat sports fans on social media.
Mayweather took to Periscope to speak on several subjects, including the idea of taking his boxing skills to the UFC.
“If I want to, I can come right back to the UFC,” Mayweather said. “I can go fight in the Octagon – I can go and do a three- or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make $1 billion.”
Of course, this all stems from the massive boxing match between Mayweather and UFC star Conor McGregor. Leading up to that bout, Mayweather said that he could beat the current UFC lightweight champion inside the Octagon.
With speculation running rampant, online sportsbook Bovada has released odds on a potential Mayweather bout inside the Octagon. Mayweather to take part in a fight in the UFC during 2018 has opened at +500 with the “No” coming back at -900.
Is this a completely ludicrous idea? Yes. Would Mayweather actually “whup” McGregor in a mixed martial arts fight? Almost certainly not. But nobody thought that a boxing match between Mayweather and McGregor would happen before it did.
