Las Vegas Expert Betting Picks: NCAAF, NFL

Fans wave the 12th Man flag to celebrate the Seattle Seahawks victory in Super Bowl XLVII during a parade on February 5, 2014 in Seattle, Washington.

Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.

LAS VEGAS — And the beat goes on. The Nevada sportsbooks reported ANOTHER winning month, shocker, pushing the streak to 62-0 since July 2013. According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, this was the BEST month for the books since they started keeping these records back in 1984. Total wagers clocked in at $571 million and they pocketed $56,304,000, which is close to a 10 percent hold.

Ecks & Bacon had a nice football weekend, hitting two of three, and maybe one day, we’ll be looking at 62-0. OK, maybe not.

NCAAF pick

Looking at the college board tomorrow, gonna roll out to the Big Ten and grab Purdue -3 points over Iowa. Kids will be kids. Why do I drag out an old saying? Because after STUNNING Ohio State 49-20, at home, the Boilermakers forgot to show up on the road against Michigan State, and came up on the short end of a 23-13 score. The Boilers WILL show up on Saturday, and bust up the Hawkeyes, just like they did last year, 24-15, but the final margin will be even fatter. Why? ’Cause I said so. Nah. Only kidding.

It’s because after looking at Iowa’s 6-2 record, it was built on smoke & mirrors. Wins against Northern Illinois, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana and Maryland says one thing to me. SO FREAKIN’ WHAT! Gimme a shot and a beer, BABY!

Normally, we like to keep the plays to a minimum, but there are actually a few more games that deserve a tickle, and that screams three-team 10-point teaser. So, take Northwestern, and bump the Wildcats up from +10 to +20 points against Notre Dame. Then take Mississippi from a pick’em to +10 points against South Carolina. Close it with the battle of Florida, and drop Florida International from -2 to +8 points against Florida Atlantic.

NFL pick

On to NFL Sunday, and we’re on the Seahawks -1 point over the Chargers. First, if you don’t mind, gotta tell you that me and my keyboard are at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, sitting at a table overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Sea otters, sharks, kelp forests, octopuses, or is that octopi, jellyfish and a wicked good clam chowder. That’s not the reason I picked the SEAhawks, but hey, I’m OK with serendipity. After some housecleaning, Pete Carroll has the ’Hawks playing at a pretty high level. They have won four of the last five, and are always dynamic at home.

Since 2012, the 12th Man has helped Seattle to post a sweet 44-11 record. And if you looked at the Chargers’ recent four-game winning streak, you might be impressed. DON’T! Beating the Browns (1-5-1), 49ers (1-7), Raiders (1-6) and Titans (3-4) does not stir my drink. Can “Rollin on the Philip Rivers” finally beat a team with a winning record? They have not yet. Only one thing left to say. Yup, this is my BEST BET, BABY!!!
