Las Vegas Expert Picks: The Masters, MLB, EPL

Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.

LAS VEGAS — Lodewicus Theodorus Oosthuizen, or just plain Louis to his friends, has my admiration and my money. Why? First, the money. After a second-place finish at the PGA last year, Oosthuizen completed, and I’m naming it in French, “La Deuxieme Place Grand Chelem.” Which, loosely translated, means second place in every STINKIN’ Grand Slam. Yup. Louie has a second in the Masters, the British Open, the U.S. Open and the PGA. And he did win the British in 2010. Actually got him on my phone two weeks ago at +7500. He is -2 heading into today’s action, and will be a factor on Sunday. ROOT for me and Louis.

Now, why my admiration? After coming in second in the PGA last year, Oosty did a video that made me cry funny tears. He lip-synched to the song Rise Up on his private jet back to South Africa, and MAN, you GOTTA hit YouTube and check it out. SERIOUSLY, check it. You will laugh your golf balls off.

Just looked at my Sportsbook phone app, and Louie is +5000 heading into today’s action. Might just buy some more Oosty.

MLB Picks

Moving over to the baseball diamond, gonna drop some love on the Twins with Jose Berrios over the Mariners. Not just picking Berrios because he opened the 2018 season with a GORGEOUS complete-game three-hit donut, beating the Orioles 7-0, but it does help. Also love Berrios in this spot because he won eight of nine decisions at home last season.

One more baseball game for you, a little night action, and we got the Phillies with Vince Velasquez over the Marlins. If you looked at Velasquez’s last start, you’re probably thinking that Ecks has lost his bacon. He was bombed for nine hits and four earned runs in just 2.2 innings. UGLY for sure. Bounce-back city for Double V as the Phils crush the Fish.

EPL Pick

Fly across the pond with me, and buy some Arsenal over Southampton tomorrow. Why? Check out what the Gunners have done the last five times on the pitch. Starting with a 2-0 win over AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League on March 8. Then it was a 3-0 donut against Watford in the Premier League on March 11. Back to Europa with a 3-1 W against Milan on March 15. Then another EPL win, 3-0 against Stoke City on April 1. And finally, a gorgeous 4-1 W over CSKA Moscow this past Thursday. ALL-IN on the Gunners!

And PLZ hit me on Twitter over the weekend, @vegasvigorsih, ’cause ya never know when we’ll find a gem on the baseball diamond, the NBA hardwood or the ice.
