Las Vegas Expert Picks: MLB, International Champions Cup

Starting pitcher Walker Buehler #21 of the Los Angeles Dodgers throws against the Miami Marlins during the fifth inning at Dodger Stadium on July 21, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.

Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.

MLB Pick

LAS VEGAS — On the bases tonight, gonna take a look at Cleveland with Mike Clevinger over the Angels. Looks like Los Angeles will start either Dillon Peters or Felix Pena. Thinking Peters most likely. Either one is fine with me as long as the Indians send out Clevinger. Cleveland is breathing down Minnesota’s neck and should stay hot at home.

And we love what Clevinger has been spinning. He has won four in a row and allowed only six earned runs over the last 31 innings for a skinny 1.74 ERA. And he LOVES pitching at Progressive Field, where he takes to the mound a 6-0 mark since August of last season. Gonna drop some change on the home side, and if Jobu is in the clubhouse, DOUBLE UP, BABY!!!

International Champions Cup Pick

On to Cardiff, Wales for the last game of the International Champions Cup between Manchester United and AC Milan. Totally get that this game does not count, but if there’s money to be made, why leave it on the table. The Red Devils have been PERFECT in the preseason, with a gorgeous 5-0 record, and they’ll look to close with a big fat W before hosting Chelsea in the Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 11.

It seems as if most of the noise surrounding Paul Pogba has evaporated and that’s good news for Man U.

And the Devils still have a shot at winning the International Champions Cup. It’s not the Premier League crown, or the UEFA Champions League trophy, but hardware is hardware.

And it seems as if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is following the Tottenham playbook from last year. The Spurs won the ICC and then went on to have a MONSTER year, finishing fourth in the Premier League and making the final of the Champions League before losing to Liverpool 2-0.

So we’re thinking that Ole will drop a serious lineup as the Red Devils look to post a 6-0 PERFECTO!

MLB Parlay

Got a little baseball parlay for you tomorrow. Gonna rock the Phillies with Nola against Detwiler, must specify pitchers plz, and the Dodgers with Buehler against anybody. The Padres have not named a starter for Saturday, but who cares!

PLZ hit me on Twitter over the weekend, @vegasvigorish, just in case anything pops on the baseball diamond.
