Las Vegas Expert Picks: MLB, NCAAF, EPL

Andrew McCutchen #22 of the San Francisco Giants in action against the New York Mets at Citi Field on August 21, 2018 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. The Mets defeated the Giants 6-3.

Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.

LAS VEGAS — $204,800!!!

That’s the number I’m shooting for. Last week, we came in on a little 3-0 Ecks & Bacon roll, gave out four winners, and pushed the streak to 7-0. So, I’m over halfway to my goal of 12-0. The DELECTABLE DOZEN. Now I can admit that I have been doubling up my bets every week, and will do so again. Bet $3,200 on the last selection, which put me at 7-0, and now will throw down $6,400 on the next pick. When I get to 12-0, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow will be worth $204,800! C’mon along for the ride!

MLB pick

So, the next pick is on the baseball board tonight, and I’m on the Giants over the Rangers. San Francisco gives the ball to Dereck Rodriguez, and this rookie kid has been on fire. He is 6-1 with a 2.25 ERA and has not lost a game at AT&T Park. Want more? Gotcha. His last three starts have been RIDONKULOUS, allowing only two earned runs over 21 innings. That, ladies and gentlemen, works out to a 0.86 ERA. And finally, Rodriguez was born in Arlington, Texas. Guessing I don’t need to tell you which team plays in Arlington.

NCAAF pick

After the S.F. Giants put me at 8-0, I’ll roll over to college football, BABY!!! And grab Colorado State -14 points over Hawaii. Win one for the Gipper, or, win one for the Bobo! It’s Mike Bobo, if you’re not familiar with the Colorado State coach. Wha happened, Eck? Well, Bobo had been hospitalized recently after experiencing numbness in his feet. He was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. It’s a condition that results from damage to the peripheral nerves and usually results in weakness, numbness and pain in the hands and feet. They didn’t know if Bobo was gonna be on the field for the opener, but he’s BACK! Will that mean the Rams cover the -14 point spread? Oh yeah.

Normally, we shy away from freshman QBs making their first start, but while K.J. Carta-Samuels will be making his first start for CSU, he AIN’T no freshman. KJC-S saw limited action at Washington, but did play in 25 games for the Huskies. Last season, the Rams smoked the Rainbow Warriors, IN Hawaii, 51-21. And while both teams lost a bunch, the Rams have DOMINATED their home openers the last five years. What does domination look like? It looks like 5-0 with total points scored, 229, and total points allowed, only 92. That’s an average winning margin of 27+ points per game, and more than enough to cover the two-TD spread.

EPL pick

Not gonna include these picks in my DELECTABLE DOZEN, but if you need some Premier League action, try Arsenal to gobble up its first win against West Ham, and Southampton to post a W against Leicester with NO Jamie Vardy.

And PLZ hit me on either Instagram, punch in...americasline, or Twitter over the weekend, @vegasvigorish, ’cause ya never know when we’ll find another gem on the baseball diamond.
