Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.
LAS VEGAS — Had a sweet little 3-0 hat trick in last week’s column, expecting the cash flow to continue and ready to throw a 7-0 up on the betting board.
Before the picks, since you asked, here’s a list of the Nevada casinos’ net winnings in June.
- Penny slots: $361.1 million
- Blackjack: $100.0 million
- Baccarat: $42.5 million
- Roulette: $37.1 million
- Craps: $33.8 million
- Sports: $29.2 million
On the baseball board tonight, gonna tap the White Sox with Lance Lynn over the Indians. Lynn has been on quite a roll, allowing only four earned runs over the last 28 innings for a PHABULOUS 1.29 ERA.
On the other side of the equation, Cleveland’s J.C. Mejia has been getting THRASHED. He has lost six straight and given up 23 hits and 21 earned runs in the last 21 innings.
That’s a big PHAT 9.00 ERA, and that is a big PHAT OUCH! Sox for the money.
Olympic Tennis Picks
Now we’re gonna swing over to Japan, and if we have the time and day correct, maybe early Saturday afternoon in Tokyo, we’re looking to take a small position on the women’s Olympic tennis final.
Gonna roll with Marketa Vondrousova over Belinda Bencic. After playing three sets in her opening match against Kiki Bertens, Marketa has won her next four matches with ease. She beat Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-1, 6-2, then SHOCKED the world with a stunning 6-1, 6-4 upset against Naomi Osaka.
She won the first set against Paula Badosa Gibert 6-3, then Gibert retired. In the semifinal, it was a powerful 6-3, 6-1 demolition of Elina Svitolina. Looking at Bencic’s matches, her last three were ALL three sets and she just might be a little weary. Gimme a thin slice of cash on Vondrousova.
Also gonna take a small taste of Germany’s Alexander Zverev to win the gold against Karen Khachanov. Not even gonna get into the ramifications of the Russian kid named Karen. Just TOO much to unpack.
However, we can tell you that Zverev’s full name is Alexander “Sascha” Alexandrovich Zverev. Yeah, both of his parents are from Russia, and Alexander would LOVE to beat Khachanov.
And with his confidence SKY-HIGH after knocking out Novak Djokovic, gotta throw a few rubles at the Big Z!
Olympic Basketball Pick
Staying in Japan, bouncing over to the basketball court and gonna try the USA -24 points over the Czech Republic. After losing to France in the opener, the USA brought out the BIG bucket brigade in the last game against Iran, blowing out to a RIDONKULOUS 120-66 win.
How did the Czechs do against Iran? Beat ’em by ONLY six points, 84-78. Think that the Stars & Stripes are ready to hunt for gold, and should win by at least 30.
Call it Czech MATE!!!
