Las Vegas Expert Picks: MLB, UFC 240, NFL Hall of Fame Game

Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.

NFL Hall of Fame Game Pick

LAS VEGAS — Ready to unload on the Falcons as a pick’em against the Broncos this coming Thursday in the Hall of Fame Game. Only kidding, but man is it great to have the NFL back. And you can actually find a skinny middle if you come to Vegas.

Sportsbook and Sportsbook have the game pick’em, while CG, which is Cantor Gaming, has Atlanta -1.5. Buy a pick’em at one spot, then the dog at CG, and pray for the game to land one. It’s still July and I’m talking middles. CRAZY!!!

Oops... typed that last night, and while I got a little cash down, that plus 1.5 number is now GONZO!!!

And looking at my screen, just noticed that the sharps are STEAMING the Broncos, with Denver now -1, -1.5 and even -2 at the Sportsbook here in Vegas.

MLB Pick

Going west tonight on the baseball board, and gonna roll with Seattle over Detroit. Two lousy teams, but still an opportunity to make some bank. Yusei Kikuchi has not been building any Cy Young credentials as part of the Mariners rotation, allowing 10 earned runs over the last nine innings, but Detroit’s Daniel Norris has been building his ugly credentials toward a demotion to Triple-A.

He has NOT won a game since May 12, yeah, FREAKIN’ May 12. Now, check out his last five starts. In 26 innings of work, Norris has been scorched for 34 hits and 20 earned runs, which translates to a BULBOUS 6.92 ERA. So, it’s a very light play to the M’s for the win, but pushing my chips ALL-IN on OVER 9.5 baby, WAY OVER!!!

UFC 240 Pick

Also gonna take a look at UFC 240 in Edmonton tomorrow, and in the main event, drop some love, as well as a few bucks, on Max Holloway over Frankie Edgar. Everyone loves the legend that is Frankie, but the curtain eventually comes down on everyone, including legends.

Edgar is almost 38 years old and hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since April 2018 when he posted a decision win over a fading Cub Swanson. A year and change out of the mix and coming up on 40 is not a good combination. Holloway is coming off a loss to Dustin Poirier (decision) back in April when he moved up to 155 pounds. However, Max is TEN years younger than Frankie, and after losing out on a shot to claim another championship belt, do NOT expect this strap to vanish.

Gonna jump on a few props as well. Try Holloway KO/TKO in round 3 at +750 and, looking at the ladies, gotta get me some Cyborg to drop Felicia Spencer in round 1 at -145.

PLZ hit me on Twitter over the weekend, @vegasvigorish, just in case anything pops on the baseball diamond.
