Las Vegas Expert Picks: NFL Week 9, NCAAF Week 10, NBA

Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.

NBA Pick

LAS VEGAS — With the exception of an old all-star game, don’t remember an OVER/UNDER total of 243.5 points on the NBA board. Also don’t ever remember a 159-158 score that didn’t go at least three or four OTs. The Rockets beat the Wizards in Washington on Wednesday in a game that totaled 317 points. In regular time. Kinda went OVER, or should I say FREAKIN’ WAY OVER, the posted total of 234. Only, or should I say, ONLY 83 FREAKIN’ points OVER the total. Naturally, all the bookies compensated and hung a total of 243.5 against the Nets tonight. Maybe Houston might be a little tired after Wednesday night’s explosion. So, thinking about rolling to the low side.

NCAAF Pick

Shoot all the poison arrows you want at Jim Harbaugh, but make sure you take Michigan, even at -21 points over Maryland. We bought the game at an open of -18, but thinking this is gonna be one of those traditional November blowouts. Totally get that the Wolverines had a YUGE win against Notre Dame last week, but they can NOT afford to take their foot off the gas. They beat Maryland last year 42-21 and this pack of Wolves is even better. And the Terps are EMBARRASSING. They lost to Minnesota last week 52-10 and were OBLITERATED by Penn State at home 59-0. The Turtles have been outscored 126-52 the last three weeks, so we are ALL OVER the Maize & Blue!

NFL Picks

On the NFL board, goin’ to PROP TOWN for some magic money makers in the Eagles/Bears tilt. Not saying that Da Bears are as bad as the Jets, but the last game at home, against the Jets, the Igles stormed out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, and it was 21-0 at the half. Last week, Philly didn’t exactly roar out of the starting gate, but did win the 1st Q 3-0, and the half as well, with an 11-7 edge. So, gonna put some green on the Green Birds to win the 1st Q at -.5, yeah, minus just a hook, and to win the 1st half at -3. Also contemplating taking the Eagles OVER 23.5 points for the game, since they’ve scored 32, 24 and 31 the last three times out at the Linc.

And for the one you’ve all been waiting for, best betting the Cowboys -7 points over the Giants. Jerry hates to lose. Jerry hates to lose in New York. Jerry WILL NOT stand for losing twice in New York, well, actually New Jersey. The Cowboys lost to the Jets 24-22 back on October 13 at the Meadowlands, but bounced back with an enormous win the next week against the Eagles, 37-10. Now they come back after the bye week, ready to do some damage. Last season, the ’Boys posted a gorgeous 7-1 mark after the bye. They are also gonna look to erase the sour taste of last year’s outing on Monday night, a 28-14 loss to the Titans. Turnovers. Not apple turnovers. Fumbles and interceptions. The NYG lead the league with 19 TOs. Been waiting for Double E to regain his form, and with 111 yards against the Green, Zeke looks ready. Not so for Saquon Barkley, who still doesn’t seem right with the cranky ankle. You want perfection? Gotcha. Dallas is on a 7-0 run straight up and against the spread against the NFC East, so yes, this IS my BEST BET, BAABBEEE!!!

Oh yeah, if you can find Minny at plus anything, and Patrick Mahomes is out, JUMP!
