Las Vegas Expert Picks: MLB, EPL

Aaron Nola Benjamin Eckstein Las Vegas Picks Betting Odds

Vegas veteran Benjamin Eckstein, author of America’s Line, brings three decades of experience to make weekly picks in his “Ecks & Bacon” column.

LAS VEGAS — Not gonna brag about hitting 12 or 13 in a row, but will yell about the last two columns for OddsShark, which have been perfection. It’s not mind-boggling, just yet, but after a W last week, we are building a sweet little bankroll on a 3-0 baseball run.

MLB Picks

Looking at tonight’s action first. So, the Mets have scored like 142 runs the last three games, OK, maybe 46, but the Phillies have the guy on the bump who can cool the red-hot lumber. Aaron Nola is MY Cy Young at the moment, and you KNOW that the Mets feel the same way. In his last five starts against the New Yorkers, he is 4-0 with one no-decision. Of the five starts, two have been at home, and Nola allowed the Mets only two earned runs over 13 innings with 12 Ks, for a 1.38 ERA.

Then there’s the home cooking angle. How about a 8-0 PERFECTO in games with a decision, and 11-0 overall in games he started at the Bank. Totally get that Noah Syndergaard is the opponent, but the big guy doesn’t scare me. The “luxurious hair” does have a 4-1 record since returning to the rotation, but he’s giving up more than a hit per inning (30 innings, 34 hits). Yes, we’re ringing the Liberty Bell.

And of course, if you wanna lay almost $400, Cleveland with Carlos Carrasco is the side.

EPL Picks

Now we jump across the pond for a little Premier League action, and we’ll buy Everton over Southampton. First let me say that I own an Everton jersey. Not the 2018-19 version with SportPesa on the front, but rather the old-school jersey with Chang Beer and the two elephants facing each other. Aside from Arsenal, maybe one of the great logos ever.

Back to the match. Not picking the Toffees because of the love for the jersey, but rather this: Everton is unbeaten in its last 13 home league games against Southampton, winning nine and drawing four. That’s 9-4-0 if you’re a numbers guy, or gal. If the Saints couldn’t score a goal at home in Southampton against Burnley last week, they ain’t gonna scare anyone at Goodison Park in Liverpool. This is the first home game for new Everton boss Marco Silva, and the always nutty fans will be bordering on berserk. Gimme some Toffee.

And of course, if you wanna lay around $400, try Tottenham at home against Fulham. Despite loving Fulham’s nickname, the Cottagers, gotta tell you the Spurs have lost only two of their last 38 at home (30 wins, 6 draws, 2 losses). Not in the habit of laying $400, but this one looks easy-peasy!

And PLZ hit me on Twitter over the weekend, @vegasvigorish, ’cause ya never know when we’ll find another gem on the baseball diamond.
