Our Premier League Picks Table Explained
On our Picks page, you’ll notice dollar signs, ATS, To Win and Total O/U. These are all betting terms that you should familiarize yourself with in order to make strategic picks. Under the Last 100 heading, you’ll see the records for the last 100 games played in the Premier League.
The table also features the amount of money won (or lost) based on the opening and closing lines, ATS and Total O/U. It may seem like gibberish but don’t worry, we’ll explain each term below.
$ Of Units Opening/Closing
The dollar sign ($) expresses the profit or loss based on a bettor placing $100 on each of the last 100 Premier League matches generated by the computer on the opening and closing lines. Where it says “To Win,” the win is based on moneyline bets.
Straight-up bets, also known as the moneyline, are picks that are made on one club triumphing over the other. If Manchester City is playing Watford, in order to make a moneyline wager you’d need to pick one of those clubs to win. If you choose Man City and they do win, you’d win your moneyline bet. If the inverse happens and Watford wins, you’d lose your moneyline bet.
ATS equals “against the spread.” The spread is the number oddsmakers use to give people other betting options besides only wins and losses. A spread for a Premier League fixture would be something like .5 or 1.5. One club would need to lose the match by no more than 1 or 2 goals or the other needs to win by 1, 2 or more goals. If the final score doesn’t reflect the number set by the oddsmakers, your bet won’t cover the spread and you can’t win your bet.
Total O/U is the amount won on OVER or UNDER bets. When it comes to the Premier League, any factor that can influence the game can help you decide if you want to bet the OVER or the UNDER. These factors include how capable each club is on offense and defense, weather conditions (wind being especially influential since it can change how far/fast the ball travels when kicked), and injuries sustained before the match (real injuries, not the flopping around that is done in-game when a cleat grazes a player’s shin so slightly that the only thing you can do is roll your eyes at the telly).
For example, if Man United’s goalkeeper suffers an injury to his hand and cannot play in their matchup against Brighton, you should take that into consideration when making your totals bet. You don’t know if their secondary netminder is going to let in more goals or play better against Brighton than their primary goalie.
Record Opening/Closing
On our Picks page, we list wins first, losses second, with pushes and ties third. ATS is the record based on which bets are made against the spread (explanation above). “To Win” is the record supported on moneyline bets (explanation also above). “Total O/U” is the record on OVER or UNDER picks (yes, this is explained above too).
