Blue Jays vs Orioles Preview Pick

Blue Jays vs Orioles Preview & Expert Picks Tonight: AL East Battle

After the Blue Jays stormed back against the Orioles to win in extras last night, the teams meet for a second time this season on Tuesday.

The Jays will send righty Chris Bassitt to the mound while Baltimore counters with Kyle Bradish. Both starters received Cy Young votes last year, but I'm actually backing the bats tonight.

Check out my Blue Jays vs Orioles preview and MLB expert picks for May 14th below:

Jays vs Orioles Computer Pick: Orioles Moneyline, Over 8.5

I like where the computer is going for this one. I'm not confident enough in a result to back a side here, but I also like the over. I'll break down why I agree with the computer below.

Jays vs Orioles Notable Players To Watch

C Adley Rutschman: The Orioles' catcher has been one of the team's best players all season, hitting .309 with an .834 OPS in his first 40 games. Rutschman had two homers in Monday's loss against the Blue Jays, and three home runs in his last two games.

SS Bo Bichette: Bichette has been off to a slow start this year, hitting just .218. But, he has eight hits in his last five contests, including three hits in Monday's win over the Orioles.

Jays vs Orioles Preview & Expert Pick — Over 8.5 Runs (+100)

We've got two teams on the opposite sides of the trends in this one. Baltimore's been baseball's fourth-best overs team, hitting at 54.1%. The Jays have been the seventh-best under-team, hitting that mark at 58.5%.

So, why am I leaning toward the over? Because of the pitching. As I'll break down a bit more below, but Bradish has actually struggled against this Jays lineup. Guys like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Alejandro Kirk all have career averages over .290 against Bradish, in a significant sample size, too.

On the Toronto side, Chris Bassitt has been a real hit-or-moss this year. He's had four quality starts, but also four games where he's allowed at least four runs. Against an Orioles offense that leads baseball in homers, I'd lean to the latter.

Jays vs Orioles Preview & Expert Pick No. 2 — Bradish Under 5.5 Ks (-140)

Bradish has made two starts this year, earning five strikeouts against the Yankees and nine against the Nationals. He's still not fully stretched out, yet to throw over 90 pitches this year, so that gives me a slight lean to the under here. But, the real key is Bradish's struggles against Toronto.

The Orioles righty has faced current Toronto batters in 98 career at-bats, racking up just 13 strikeouts to nine walks in that time. There's just something about this Toronto lineup that gives him a challenge.

Bradish has faced the Blue Jays seven times over the last two seasons, averaging 26/7 strikeouts per contest. The Over has also hit in three of those past four outings, which helps justify our previous pick, too.
