UFC rankings show us who the best fighters in each division are. The number one spot (#1) is determined by the current UFC title or interim title holder per division.
How to Read UFC Rankings
UFC rankings take their cue from the rest of the sporting world and list Wins first. Losses are listed in the middle and Draws are last. Draws are extremely rare in the UFC, usually only occurring about five times per year. Besides their overall record, you can also see the record for each fighters’ last three matches. NC stands for “No Contest”, which are fights that end because of something like an accidental illegal strike. In NC decisions there is no Sportsbook or loser. In 2008, Shaun Parker and Tyler Bryan knocked each other out simultaneously resulting in a No Contest decision.
If a fighter is on a win streak or beats a highly ranked opponent, that fighter will see a rise in the rankings. If a fighter loses multiple fights in a row, they will drop off the rankings completely. If you see a +1 or -1 beside a fighter’s name it means they’ve moved up or down in the rankings.
Let’s pretend UFC fight news features Johnny Cage as a real person and not a character from Mortal Kombat. His record would look something like this: 28/7/0 (1NC)
Women are also involved in the UFC and their records are listed the same way as their male counterparts. Using the same make-believe example from Mortal Kombat, Sonja Blade’s record would look something like this: 25/2/0
Sub-Zero and Reptile fight dirty and would not be allowed in the UFC.
