NBA Championship Odds 2023-24: Celtics, Nuggets Remain Monster Favorites

Results from the first round of the 2024 playoffs haven't created a noticeable shift in the NBA championship odds for which team will hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy this June.

As things stand, the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets remain the heavy favorites to win it all, although the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder have now improved to having greater than 10-to-1 odds themselves.

Leading the way: Boston Celtics, +115

A Game 2 loss to the Miami Heat was a gut punch to Celtics fans thinking the team would be on cruise control through the Eastern Conference bracket en route to the Finals. Since then, Boston blew past their first-round opponents with three-straight wins of 16 points or more, culminating in a 118-84 blowout at TD Garden on May 1 to advance to the second round.

Two in a row: Denver Nuggets, +270

A Game 4 loss at Crypto.com Arena was merely a minor speed bump for the reigning champion Nuggets, who eked out a narrow 108-106 victory at home in Game 5 to eliminate the Los Angeles Lakers and advance to the second round for the fifth time in six years.

NBA Championship Betting Strategy

Much of what formulates odds for NBA title contenders obviously stems from regular-season success.

The reason why the Celtics and Nuggets continue to be the commanding favorites is that they've been near the top of the standings for pretty much the entire year, leaving oddsmakers no other choice but to give them such strong positioning.

What Impacts NBA Championship Odds?
