Military Bowl Matchup

Navy, in its first season ever in a conference, hoped to contend for the AAC's West Division title. And contend it did, eventually finishing in a tie for first place. The Midshipmen started 4-0, then lost at Notre Dame. Navy then won five more in a row, setting up a season-ending showdown with Houston, but lost to the Cougars 52-31, giving Houston the tie-breaker and the berth in the AAC Championship Game.

The Midshipmen won four in a row ATS to begin this season, and four more in a row ATS down the stretch, becoming one of the best bets in college football this season. Navy is also 4-0 on the OVER its last four games, averaging 44 points per in the process.

The Midshipmen are 3-3 both SU and ATS in bowls under head coach Ken Niumatalolo; last year Navy kicked a field goal with a minute to go to beat San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl 17-16.

Pittsburgh had thoughts on contending for a division title this season, even though it was playing its first campaign under new head coach Pat Narduzzi. And the Panthers gave it a run, coming up a couple games short. Pitt started 6-1, and 4-0 in ACC play, but in the key game of the season lost to eventual Coastal Division champion North Carolina. Pitt then, perhaps a bit deflated, lost to Notre Dame, beat Duke and Louisville, but laid an egg in the season finale, losing at home to Miami 29-24.

The Panthers started this season 4-2 ATS, but finished 2-4 ATS. They're also only 2-4 ATS when giving points this season. Pitt is playing in a bowl for the eighth season in a row, going 3-4 both SU and ATS the previous seven. Last year the Panthers blew a 31-6 lead and lost to Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl 35-34.
