Despite no official confirmation, Jared Goff will almost certainly be the Day 1 starter for the Los Angeles Rams this upcoming NFL season. The Rams mortgaged the future to attain Goff and spent their remaining draft picks on some offensive pieces with high upside.
Goff has seen his season total for passing yards set at O/U 3400 yards (-120/-120). That is a ludicrously high number when you consider the only rookie quarterback to top that number in the past three seasons is Jameis Winston. Goff will not have the luxury of throwing to a receiver like Mike Evans and he will also be in Jeff Fisher’s run-first offense.
Goff’s touchdown total is set at a more respectable 16.5 (-120/-120). Four rookie quarterbacks have eclipsed that benchmark in the past three seasons, with Winston and Marcus Mariota accomplishing the feat last year. The last time a Rams’ quarterback eclipsed that mark was Sam Bradford in 2012. The Rams are coming off a year in which Nick Foles, Case Keenum and Sean Mannion combined for 11 passing touchdowns.
