How are CFL Power Rankings compiled?
We crunch tons of CFL stats and standings chart to see how each team rates in dozens of categories. On offense, points per game, how each Canadian Football League team ranks in home and road scoring, home and away breakdowns in terms of rushing yards and passing yards, along with key offensive indicators such as yards per play. Turnovers, penalties and other data factors into an overall CFL offensive power number.
We do the same for all the relevant defensive stat categories: yards per play allowed, rank in stopping the run and defending the pass. This gives an overall power number, which we then apply against strength of schedule multipliers. If Montreal has played three 0-3 teams, their power rank might not be as high as the 0-3 Blue Bombers who have played three 3-0 teams.
Early in the season, the numbers may be skewed a bit as each team need some road and home action to trigger meaningful stat breakdowns. But as the season wears on, the value of CFL power rankings here at OddsShark.com will become clear and you'll be happy you checked the ratings each week before making your wagers. In short, it helps you identify the real comparison between teams and to find line value based on any edges you find.
Good luck with your CFL handicapping this year.
