Westbrook Favored To Win Third Straight ASG MVP

Russell Westbrook became just the second player in NBA history to win back-to-back all-star game MVPs last season on the back of his 31-point, eight-rebound, five-assist performance. With Westbrook posting absurd numbers this season, the Oklahoma City Thunder guard has opened as the favorite to win the all-star game MVP yet again in 2017.

Westbrook would be the first player in NBA history to ever three-peat the award and only the fifth player to win the award three times overall (the others are Bob Pettit, Kobe Bryant, Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal). It is certainly hard to imagine Russ winning the prize three years running, but stranger things have happened.

If you’re looking for value, you need to bet the backcourt, with a guard winning the MVP in seven of the past eight seasons (the award was shared by Kobe Bryant and Shaq in 2009). It is also worth noting that a non-starter has won the award just twice in the past 10 years (Westbrook in 2015 and Shaq in 2009).

If those trends continue to carry weight, then you will want to take a look at Kyrie Irving (+750), DeMar DeRozan (+2800), Steph Curry (+600) or James Harden (+700).
