[Pinstripe Bowl Matchup Stats | Notre Dame vs. Rutgers Betting Preview]

Pinstripe Bowl Betting Trends: Rutgers won the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl and is 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven bowl game appearances . . . Notre Dame is 2-9 ATS in its last 11 bowl game appearances . . . The Irish are 16-6-3 in games at both Yankee Stadiums.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights' return to the Pinstripe Bowl is overshadowed by the recent firing of the team’s defensive coordinator, QB coach, and offensive line coach following Rutgers' 31-6 pounding of South Florida. Ironically, the win secured the Knights their bowl eligibility. The Knights had given up a combined 121 points in their three previous games to Cincinnati, Central Florida, and Connecticut. Indeed, Rutgers has struggled since starting the season 4-1. Since then, they have posted 2-5 records SU and ATS, and have only won once and covered once on the road. This season has been a letdown for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, after earning a berth in the BCS National Championship Game a year ago. The 8-4 Irish have yet to find consistency, losing two of their last three SU while posting a mediocre 5-6-1 season record. The UNDER is 3-0 in each teams' last three games.

Both the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Iowa State Cyclones failed to earn bowl eligibility last season, but both return to bowling in this year’s Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium is less than 50 miles away from Rutgers’ campus.

Rutgers had a solid year from start to finish with an 8-4 record both SU and ATS. The Scarlet Knights were 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS as a favorite during the regular season. Iowa State was 7-3 ATS as an underdog though including four outright upsets; none bigger of course than the upset win over Oklahoma State as a 27-point home underdog.

Gary Nova and Chas Dodd split playing time throughout the year at quarterback, but Dodd has been named the starter for the Pinstripe Bowl. Dodd had 1,398 yards and nine touchdowns with seven interceptions this season.

Many sportsbooks believe the Pinstripe Bowl will be one of the closest, as college football betting oddsmakers see this game as a pick’em between the evenly-matched teams of the Syracuse Orange and the Kansas State Wildcats.

The Syracuse Orange will be at least sentimental favorites in college football betting with 24 players from the state when they take on Kansas State in a game so close to home.

With not much to decide between the two teams, it could be the winning history of Syracuse (12-9-1) in bowl games that gives them the slight edge in NCAAF odds.

Delone Carter is going to suit up for the Orange, and that locker room can breathe a sigh of relief. Carter was third in the Big East with 1,035 rushing yards and seven touchdowns - and is a pivotal reason for the Orange attending their first bowl game in six years.

Against a Big 12-worst 229.1 yards rushing allowed by Kansas State, it could provide an element for bettors to consider in the tight Pinstripe Bowl odds.

Kansas State finished in the middle of the Big 12, and will be attending its first bowl game since 2006. They are 6-7 overall in bowl games.

The Wildcats will rely on running back Daniel Thomas, a senior who ran for 1,495 yards - good enough for second in the conference - while tying for the Big 12 lead in touchdowns with 16.

If Thomas can run for at least 90 yards he gives Kansas State a chance. If Syracuse holds him to under 90 they will almost be assured of a victory, as the Wildcats are just 1-7 when he’s below that mark.
