Jaguars Longest Underdog Streak Ever?

Jacksonville is a 7-point underdog at home to Houston this week, which is the 41st consecutive game the hapless Jaguars have been underdogs on the NFL betting lines.

And while they are very close to the record set by the 2007-2009 St. Louis Rams, at least one odds maker doesn’t think they will break the dubious mark.

“Even though they have been dogs 41 in a row and will doubtless get points again next week at the Ravens, right now I would make them slim favorites against Tennessee for Week 16,” said Kevin Bradley of Sportsbook.

“A lot can happen between now and then, but I would make them -1 right now, which doesn’t say a lot about the quality of the Titans.”

The Rams were not favored between Dec. 9, 2007 and Oct. 24, 2010 inclusively, a stretch of 43 games that serves as the benchmark for Vegas and offshore betting disrespect.

Woeful Tennessee visits Jacksonville in Week 16 and they are 2-10 SU this year and a slight home underdog this week against a terrible Giants team that has lost seven straight (including to the Jags last week).

If you are wondering which NFL team holds the record for most consecutive games (including playoffs) being favored by the sportsbooks, it is not the New England Patriots. The Pats’ longest streak was 23 games ending with a loss in San Diego on Oct. 12, 2008.

The record for point-spread awesomeness is held by the same Rams franchise that holds the record for point-spread hopelessness. The Greatest Show on Turf era Rams of Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk fame were favored at the books in 57 straight games.

They gave points in every game between Oct. 3, 1999 and Sept. 29, 2002.
