The 146th Open Championship Odds & Betting Preview

The world’s best golfers will test their mettle at Royal Birkdale when the beautiful links course located just north of Liverpool hosts the 146th Open Championship.

Ahead of the prestigious tournament, it’s the usual suspects at the top of the oddsboard with Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth sharing the honors as the co-favorites over at Bovada.

DJ, who’s had a tough year at majors, could be a potential fade candidate. No fave has won the Open since Tiger accomplished the feat over a decade ago and Johnson hasn’t finished higher than ninth since he was bested by Darren Clarke in 2011 when he finished T2 with Phil Mickelson.

Meanwhile, defending champ Henrik Stenson is being offered up at a bargain-bin price of +2500. The Swede has finished in the top three on four separate occasions at the Open but he’s not having his best year on tour. Stenson has missed the cut in four of his last five PGA events and has seen most of his best results come on the European circuit. Stenson’s precise ball-striking, though, could have him posting negative numbers all tournament long at a very tight English course.

Among the killers at the top of the list, Rickie Fowler (+1600), Jon Rahm (+1600), Masters winner Sergio Garcia (+1800), Justin Rose (+2000) and Rory McIlroy (+2000) are all worth consideration. Spieth and Fowler’s countryman and spring break buddy, Justin Thomas, is a little further down the board at +5000 and considering he’s third on the PGA money leaders list, Thomas makes for an interesting play after finishing ninth at the most recent Masters.

Brooks Koepka, the victor of the U.S. Open at Erin Hills, can be found at +3300.

The 146th Open will be held on July 20-23. Here’s a look at the shop’s full list of odds.
