Super Bowl National Anthem Prop Odds

Update: Despite taking his sweet time out of the gate, Luke Bryan went UNDER the proposed time of 2:09 with his 2-minute and 4-second rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner.

From Barry Manilow to Garth Brooks, the Dixie Chicks to Renee Fleming, over the years the Star-Spangled Banner has been performed at the Super Bowl by a wide range of artists covering all musical genres.

Mr. bro country himself, Luke Bryan, has been booked to sing the national anthem at Super Bowl 51 and for those of you paying close attention, you'll remember that this country star sang the anthem back in 2012 at the MLB All-Star Game and I clocked him in with a time of 2:03. The official OVER/UNDER line has been set at 2:09 by Bovada with both sides paying a line of -120. If you want to break down his performance and mannerisms to give yourself a better chance at crashing the sportsbook's parties, here's the video of him singing the Star-Spangled Banner in Kansas City.

It doesn't appear he missed any words in the video but as we've seen countless times, the pressure of performing at the Super Bowl can turn superstars into goats and Janet Jackson into a softcore porn star. If you're feeling confident he kicks the dust up, you can get +400 value at Bovada along with a slew of other props related to Bryan singing the anthem.

The entertainment for this year's Super Bowl halftime show, Lady Gaga, sang the national anthem at Super Bowl 50 and there was some controversy as books disagreed on the time it took the pop star to finish. Ultimately, it was decided that Gaga went UNDER the total of 2:20 with a clock-in time of 2:09.

Broadway and Frozen star Idina Menzel sang the national anthem at Super Bowl 49, and online sportsbook Bovada had the OVER/UNDER for her rendition of the song at two minutes, one second. Menzel went OVER that number, finishing the song at two minutes, four seconds.

For comparison, opera star Renee Fleming belted out the national anthem before Super Bowl 48 in just one minute, 54 seconds, well UNDER the total time set in props betting at Bovada which hovered around two minutes, 20 seconds in the days leading up to the big game.

For those counting at home and trying to figure out anthem trends, the UNDER is 7-3 over the past 10 Super Bowls.

After a string of pop divas and former American Idol contestants, including Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson, Fleming was the first opera star to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

Alicia Keys’ two-minute, 35-second rendition prior to Super Bowl 47 was the longest of any singer since at least Super Bowl 40, with Billy Joel spouting out the shortest version at only 1:30 in Super Bowl 41.

Six years ago, pop singer Christina Aguilera flubbed some of the lyrics and caused a betting controversy with her one minute, 54-second rendition, which landed right around the OVER/UNDER number. Some books paid out on the OVER; others paid on the UNDER.
