Breeders Cup Classic Betting Odds

The Bob Baffert trained Game On Dude heads a field of 13 that were pre-entered in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita Park on November 2.

A total of 172 horses were pre-entered in the 14 races over the two-day championship event.

Game On Dude comes into the Classic this year perfect in five starts, his most recent start a victory in the Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar on August 25. The race was a Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” race which earned the gelding a fees-paid trip to Santa Anita Park.

The gelding is the 2-1 early betting favorite in betting odds released by breederscupodds.net. It will be his third attempt to win the Classic. [ Get a huge bonus and terrific horse racing odds on all tracks, check out Sportsbook ]

In 2011, the gelding ran second at odds of 14-1 behind upset Sportsbook Drosselmeyer, and last year was a disappointing seventh as the beaten favorite.

A victory in the Classic likely will earn Game On Dude Horse of the Year honors. A loss and the honor could go to Wise Dan, who is headed to the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), or Princess of Sylmar, who will be one of the betting favorites in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1).

This year’s Classic drew a strong field including defending champion Fort Larned, who is currently the second choice at 5-1. The five-year-old has won two of his five starts this year. He won the Homecoming Classic at Churchill Downs under the lights in his last outing on September 28.

Mucho Macho Man is the third choice on the breederscupodds.net betting line at 6-1. The five-year-old won the Awesome Again (G1) at Santa Anita Park in his last start on September 28. The Kathy Ritvo trainee was the runner up in last year’s Classic at odds of 6-1.

Ron the Greek is 8-1 and coming off an upset victory in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Belmont Park in his last outing.

Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott will saddle Ron the Greek and Flat Out (10-1) who was third in last year’s Classic. Mott saddled 2011 Classic Sportsbook Drosselmeyer.

The top three-year-olds in the field are Travers (G1) Sportsbook Will Take Charge (12-1) and Belmont Stakes (G1) Sportsbook Palace Malice (10-1).

There are two overseas invaders in this year’s Classic. Aiden O’Brien sends over Declaration of War (15-1) who is coming off a victory in the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1) and Planteur (30-1) will be sent out by Marco Botti. The six-year-old won a Group 1 race in France back in 2011.
