Pick 1: Phillies ML (-130) vs cardinals
Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:45 pm ET
The key here is the pitching matchup. On paper, Zack Wheeler vs Sonny Gray seems like a pretty even battle of aces. But, Gray is actually making his first start of the season and I doubt he's fully built up. So, when you take into account that the Cardinals also have a 4.06 bullpen ERA, the St. Louis pitching side doesn't look quite as good. Especially when Wheeler has carved these Cardinals in the past. Current Cards have a .532 career OPS against Wheeler, hitting .221 as a team with a .295 OBP.
The Phillies have also won three of their last four while the Cards are coming off two-straight losses (including one to the Marlins, yikes).
Pick 2: Yankees -1.5 (+110) vs Marlins
Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:05 pm ET
The Marlins are down so bad right now. They're 1-10, basically, all their good starting pitchers need Tommy John, and they've got no offense. It ain't getting any better tonight, sorry fish. The Marlins face Yankees lefty starter Carlos Rodon, who's been pretty solid this season, working to a 2.79 ERA in two outings. The Marlins have been the league's worst team against southpaws so far this year, posting a team batting average of .175 against lefties and an OPS of just .467.
We saw what happened last night when the Marlins faced a Yankee lefty (New York won 7-0) and I expect similar results tonight.
