MLB Expert Picks Mar. 6: Spring Training Underdogs

I'm a few weeks in to my 2024 MLB spring training betting strategy (only betting home dogs), and so far we're sitting at 3-2 with the strategy. It's plus-unit profit, so I'll take it. But, I want to grow that lead.

Unfortunately, the sportsbooks are only giving us one home underdog today, so I'll have to get creative for my two MLB Spring Training picks:

Game 1: White Sox (+172) vs Dodgers

Game Time: 3:05 PM ET

In a month, I'm almost never going to be betting the White Sox to win a game. But in spring, they're my perfect home underdog. As I've laid out before, my Spring Training betting strategy is to ride the home underdogs, because home teams usually roster better lineups than the road foes and spring chaos is a great reason alone to hop on the underdogs always.

The Sox are 2-4 in their last six spring training games. But, those two wins just happen to be the only two home games. We've got Yoshinobu Yamamoto's second start of the spring coming this afternoon, which has led to a lot of money on the Dodgers and a ballooned line for the White Sox. It's not like Chicago's Michael Kopech (who has a 0 ERA so far this spring) is a scrub, so I'll happily take advantage of the plus-money on Chicago.

Game 2: Astros (-115) vs Mets

Game Time: 1:05 PM ET

There are no more home underdogs on the slate today, but the Astros are the closest thing we'll get.

The Mets (from Port St. Lucie) are travelling like two hours to play Houston (near Orlando), so I don’t expect a very good New York road team today.

Starting pitching matchups don’t really matter for spring, but we’ve also got Framber Valdez on the mound for the Astros against New York’s Jose Quintana.

There are plenty of reasons the Astros should have the edge in this one, but they’re just narrow favorites at -115.
