Raptors Have Quietly Become the Best Bet in the NBA

The Toronto Raptors can earn a late Christmas gift on Boxing Day when they take on the Trail Blazers in Portland looking for their seventh consecutive win on the road. DeMar DeRozan and the T-Dot boys have quietly surged up the Eastern Conference standings and can pull within a game of the Cavs with a win in Oregon tonight.

SHARK BITES
  • The Raptors and Rockets are the only teams with at least 20 ATS wins.
  • The Trail Blazers have lost and failed to cover in 5 straight games.
  • Toronto swept the season series with the Blazers last season.

These teams are trending in very different directions and the Blazers may have to start their New Year's resolutions a few days before everyone else. Portland has won just one game in its last 10 and has covered only two spreads in those lopsided matchups. This run of results makes the Blazers one of the coldest teams in the NBA.

I wrote earlier in the season that when Al-Farouq Aminu doesn’t play, Portland doesn’t play defense. Well, in their last two games in which Aminu suited up, the Blazers held their opponents to an average of 103 points. In the three games prior to those, in which Aminu sat out, Portland gave up an average of 131 points.

Defense will be crucial this evening when they take on a Raptors team that’s third in team scoring and that’s 0-3 this season when failing to breach the century mark.
