NFL Coaches: Preseason ATS Records
Some National Football League head coaches care more about their preseason results than others, with some of them liking their offense to get used to piling up the points and others instead playing their exhibition schedule close to the vest.
And knowing how specific NFL head coaches approach the preseason slate is crucial for bettors at this time of year.
There are three new head coaches for 2015 who have no previous head coaching experience with the San Francisco 49ers (Jim Tomsula), Atlanta Falcons (Dan Quinn), and New York Jets (Todd Bowles). Keep in mind, all three were defensive coordinators last year and have made their names on that side of the ball.
So those three will each likely be initially looking to showcase their defenses in the preseason, much like former defensive coordinators Mike Zimmer (Minnesota Vikings) last year (UNDER 3-1) and Gus Bradley (Jacksonville Jaguars) the previous season (UNDER 6-2 in two years).
In addition, two former head coaches are returning to the ranks as new team leaders in 2015 for the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders in Gary Kubiak and Jack Del Rio, respectively. Kubiak is the former offensive coordinator of the Broncos and head coach of the Houston Texans, where his teams went 19-11-2 ATS in eight years with a 21-9-2 O/U mark in the preseason.
Meanwhile, Del Rio was the defensive coordinator in Denver just last season and coached the Jaguars for nine years, posting a 20-14-2 ATS record in the preseason with a 20-16 O/U mark during that stretch.
Here is a list of the current NFL head coaches and their betting records both Against The Spread (ATS) and OVER/UNDER (O/U) heading into this year's preseason action. Head coaches with an asterisk beside their name are new to their team for this season . . .
