Sens Battle Public Perception as Home Underdogs in Game 1

Despite owning home-ice advantage in this series and sweeping the Bruins in the regular season, the Senators are receiving very little respect from Sportsbooks and opened Game 1 as the +110 betting underdog. That line is pretty much par for the course as the Sens have also been tabbed as the +155 underdog to win their series with the B’s.

SHARK BITES
  • The Bruins are 0-6 SU and on the puckline in their last 6 games against the Senators.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 3 of the Bruins' last 4 games against the Senators.
  • The Bruins went 11-29 SU against other playoff teams in the regular season.

I know the Bruins are hot coming into this series and the Senators are – well – not, but the value here is hard to ignore. When these teams squared off not even a week ago, the Senators came away with a 2-1 victory and this was when there was still seeding and playoff spots on the line. I tend to think the public is driving this line in Boston’s favor based on their pedigree and I’m urging bettors to reconsider.

That said, if you all want to just keep betting that Boston line, increasing the Sens’ value, I’m all for that as well – more $ for me.

Breaking it down a little further, these teams would appear to be incredibly well-matched. Both have taken more shots than they’ve given up since the all-star break and they both have goalies who can steal the show. Ottawa’s 2-1-2 style and Boston’s puck possession metrics would lead me to believe that this should be a low-scoring series and the teams’ goaltending stats/shots-against statistics support that theory.

To recap, I like the Senators’ value tonight – and in the series – and unlike the public bettors, who are throwing money at the OVER, I like the UNDER 5.
